Blog on Selling Online Just Got Pricier: My Take on USPS Hike!
Introduction
If you're a creator, small business owner, or side hustler shipping products online, the latest USPS price hike just gave you one more reason to rethink your logistics. Starting July 13, 2025, shipping rates are climbing—again. And while the USPS frames it as part of a long-term strategy to stay afloat, for people like us, it feels more like a hit to the hustle. In this post, I’ll break down what’s changing, what it means for your bottom line, and whether USPS is still worth sticking with. I also share my thoughts in a video form which you can see by clicking link to video button.
Costs?
Yep, USPS shipping prices are on the rise. Starting July 13, 2025, the Postal Service is implementing a series of rate hikes as part of its Delivering for America plan. Here's a quick breakdown of what’s changing:
-
Priority Mail: 📈 Up by 6.3%
-
USPS Ground Advantage: 🚚 Up by 7.1%
-
Parcel Select: 📬 Up by 7.6%
-
Forever Stamps: 💌 Jumping from 73¢ to 78¢
While these increases may seem modest, they can add up quickly for businesses and frequent shippers. The USPS says these changes are aimed at improving financial sustainability and modernizing operations.

How Does the Price Raise Effect Sellers?
Well, you try to sell stuff online for a profit, right? Yes, you do! So, with these USPS new price increases on shipping this could mean lower offers because unless you do free shipping, the buyer will pay more. So, expect to see some of that which I have seen a good bit of this each time that shipping costs have gone up in the past.
Why Is USPS Raising Prices?
The USPS is raising prices to tackle some serious financial challenges and modernize its operations. Here's the bigger picture:
-
Financial Sustainability: USPS reported a $9.5 billion loss in fiscal year 2024, up from $6.5 billion the year before. These hikes are part of its Delivering for America 10-year plan to restore long-term solvency.
-
Inflation & Costs: Rising transportation and labor costs have made it more expensive to move mail and packages across the country.
-
Network Modernization: USPS is rolling out service standard changes and network realignments to improve delivery speed and efficiency. The price increases help fund these upgrades

Do taxpayers funds usps?
- Self-Funding Mandate: Unlike many government agencies, USPS doesn’t receive tax dollars for operating expenses—it relies on revenue from postage and services. But?
-
Emergency Relief: During the COVID-19 pandemic, USPS accepted $8.64 billion in taxpayer funds to offset losses.
-
Fleet Modernization: The Biden administration backed funding for USPS’s electric vehicle infrastructure, which included taxpayer dollars.
-
Postal Service Reform Act: In 2022, USPS received over $100 billion in taxpayer assistance to help with retiree health benefits and other liabilities.

My Thoughts
I can't stand paying taxes and knowing how it's helping grants for other businesses. I don't like that USPS get money from taxpayers to pay for usps losses, electric cars, or acts that take from taxpayers. I think USPS owners need a better mindset, better goals and revise the business to make it work better. Maybe pay drivers less which hasn't completely worked or cut out free supplies. But then the sellers pay for shipping from either free shipping or the buyer paying for it. Also eliminate waste, but it's hard to know without auditing the books. I just think USPS needs change or expect the shipping prices to go up everything.
Closing Thoughts
While a 6% hike in USPS shipping rates might feel like a gut punch to online sellers, freelancers, and everyday shippers, it's part of a broader strategy aimed at keeping the Postal Service alive and competitive. The Delivering for America plan is ambitious—it’s about fixing what’s broken, investing in tech, and maybe, just maybe, creating a USPS that’s sustainable for the long haul. As creators and business owners, we can’t control these changes—but we can adapt. That means staying informed, reassessing shipping strategies, and being honest with our audiences or customers about what rising costs mean. If USPS sticks the landing, we’ll be looking back at this price hike not just as a setback—but as the turning point. I tell all about my experiences with Mercari. I used Mercari between 2017 up until I booted off the site. I got booted off in 2021, November 2021. I don't recommend Mercari at all. It was definitely upsetting to deal with, but you read that I figured out what Mercari really is greedy and selfish. My rules or the highway type of marketplace.
