What I think Of Whatnot?
Introduction
In this post as you scroll, I tell you about how to get started with whatnot, and the truth about the live stream. Yes, you can make money and ship stuff. Whatnot pays your tax. Scroll down to read more. Also, subscribe while you're here!
Getting Started
I added the app in the summer. Clicked on apply to sale, then filled out the application. Then all i needed to do what attend a virtual group video. Then I took some time to think about if I wanted to use this. I ended up asking for a new link. I got sent a new one. Then scheduled a meeting on a day and time I could attend. I did at around the end of august. I went to the virtual video using zoom on my laptop, and it took about an hour.
What else do you need to know?
It basically telling you about selling, the fees, the taxes which whatnot does pay your sales tax on your part. Then you take a test and its easy. I passed and you can stick around for the q and a. I did for a few minutes and left.
The app is easy to use. You need to set up profile, and shipping as in if you pay or the buyer pays for shipping. Then add the address you use to ship stuff from. Go to a listing, add a picture, then title, description, then fill out a few other things depending on the category you decided to use.
How To ship it?
Then price, shipping, and quantity. Then you made a listing. The selling part is you can accept, decline, or counter. Then if you accept, you need to pack it using what you fell is best. Then get on your laptop, go to whatnot. The shipment in the selling center and go to shipment. Then enter weight, then print the shipping label out which will have whatnot information for order then your label one the second sheet of paper you use. Put it in the mailbox or take it up to the post office.
Getting paid!
Then when the buyer gets the order, the buyer has 2 to 3 days to inspect the item. Then whatnot will release the funds to payout. You can add them PayPal or what option you should to send them to. The payment based on me using the app has arrived in about an hour later. Also, if the item ends up damaged or the buyer tries to pull something, you still get the funds, and the buyer has to send the item in a box to whatnot headquarters. So at least whatnot is seller friendly. I don't know if i can say that with eBay or even poshmark.
Our story of using the app and live streams
I have used whatnot for about a good year or so. I have seen the hype and everything, but the app doesn't work for everyone. The truth is with whatnot is if you have a large following and promote, and your buyers show up, then you can make whatnot work for you and make massive sells. But if you don't have a large following, it will take some time to make sales and get viewers for your videos and the app will feel like a waste of time.
Don't feel bad you may be better somewhere else
You may want to quit. So, whatnot doesn't work for everyone. You might want to go to eBay or facebook or even the flea market or a yard sale to get rid of stuff.
I would somewhat recommend whatnot, but it has its pros and cons. It definitely seller friendly and a great app to use regardless of if I keep it or not because I'm not making much using the app.
Closing Thoughts
I have been using whatnot since September of 2023. I did take a tiny break and came back around the first of the year. But I like Whatnot to a point and still use it to this day. I have sold a few items and it nothing too complicated. Get the item shipped out, then get paid two days after the item arrives. So, the only con is fees but nothing too bad. I will say I like the marketplace, and the buyers aren't difficult to deal with. I will still continue to use whatnot because I have nothing but positive experiences unlike Mercari.
